Medical Insurance

Medical coverage refers to a type of insurance that helps individuals cover the costs of medical expenses, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, and other healthcare services. Lake Forest Academy currently offers three plan designs with BCBS of IL.

For eligible employees enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), Lake Forest Academy (LFA) makes contributions into the individual's Health Savings Account (HSA). Additionally, employees have the option to contribute to their HSA through payroll deductions, with the flexibility to adjust their contributions at any time. Funds in the HSA can accumulate over time and be utilized for medical expenses in retirement, providing a valuable resource for healthcare costs during that phase of life. Furthermore, after reaching age 65, any remaining balance in the HSA can be withdrawn as taxable income, offering further financial flexibility and security in retirement.

For those who prioritize cost-effectiveness, LFA provides an HMO plan option. Participants can access high-quality services within the BCBS of IL HMO Advantage Network at exceptionally affordable rates, provided the services are sought within a designated hospital network of their choice. Among the three hospitals most frequently utilized by members of the LFA community, both Northshore University Healthsystem and Advocate Condell accept this HMO Advantage plan as in-network. However, please note that Northwestern University Healthsystem does not participate in this network. We encourage you to review the Chicago Area Hospital Listing chart to determine if this HMO plan aligns with your needs.
